I’m building out this section with print and direct mail samples, fundraising letters, and other nonprofit communication pieces. More updates are on the way as I finish organizing the portfolio.

Funding Is a Challenge. But Funding Isn't Always the Problem.

Funding is a challenge. But funding isn't always the problem.

Since 2020, nonprofits have faced increased pressure on fundraising results. Inflation. Donor fatigue. Economic uncertainty. Increased competition for grants and charitable dollars.

Those challenges are real.

But I've also noticed something else.

Many organizations focus on finding more donors before clearly communicating their value to the donors they already have.

When supporters understand:

Giving becomes easier.

Funding challenges are real.

But before assuming the problem is a lack of donors, it may be worth asking a different question:

Are we communicating our mission clearly enough for people to understand why it matters?

Strong messaging won't solve every fundraising challenge.

But weak messaging can undermine even the most worthy mission.

Donors can't support what they don't understand.

Helping organizations communicate their impact more clearly remains one of the most effective ways to strengthen fundraising and donor engagement.

Why I Launched Fitzgerald BrandWorks

After years working in communications, fundraising support, business operations, and writing, I repeatedly saw the same challenge: organizations doing important work often struggled to communicate their impact clearly and effectively.

Strong missions deserve strong messaging.

That's why I launched Fitzgerald BrandWorks: to help nonprofits, associations, and mission-driven organizations strengthen donor engagement, clarify their message, and create communications that inspire action.

Whether through direct mail fundraising, donor communications, grant support, or strategic content, every project begins with understanding the audience and connecting them to a meaningful mission.

Effective communication is not about saying more. It's about helping the right people understand why your work matters.

I look forward to sharing fundraising, communications, and nonprofit marketing insights here as Fitzgerald BrandWorks continues to grow.

The Biggest Fundraising Mistake Isn't Poor Writing. It's Unclear Positioning.

The biggest fundraising mistake isn't poor writing. It's unclear positioning.

Many nonprofits spend hours revising appeals, newsletters, social posts, and donor communications while overlooking a more fundamental question:

Why should someone care right now?

Strong fundraising begins with a clear answer to that question.

When the mission, urgency, and impact are clear, the writing becomes much easier. Donors don't support organizations because of clever wording. They support organizations because they understand the problem and believe their gift can make a difference.

Before revising a fundraising message, make sure you can clearly answer:

The best fundraising copy doesn't just inform.

It inspires action.
